A two-storey design was essential for Sonia Davies and Ted Crooks to maximise their enjoyment of the sea views from their South Coast property and to be prime hosts. They chose the four-bedroom, Lawson 2 Storey design by Sarah Homes and have revelled in the decision. "We wanted a spacious, open plan, contemporary home to take advantage of the coastal scenery and to cater comfortably for family and friends staying over," Sonia says. The home's position affords excellent views to Granite Island and Wright Island but Sonia says on clear days, "you can literally see all the way up to Goolwa".

She says it's "an indulgent, idyllic home" they dreamed about for years. "It's like having a holiday home atmosphere all the time," Sonia says. "We're just very happy with the outcome." Initially, Sonia and Ted were impressed by Sarah Homes' display homes and their online detail. "Our building experience was outstanding, with our building supervisor being extremely helpful with his proactive advice and communication all the way through," Sonia says.

"These all helped save time, money and improved the comfort of the home overall." For example, the couple's plan didn't meet all requirements of new laws on the energy rating, so it needed to be raised from five to six-star status. "But Sarah Homes came up with options to meet them," Sonia says. "We ended up with double glazed windows which keep the house warm through winter." The layout offers the choice of indoors or outdoors relaxation and entertaining. "The beauty is they (guests) have their own privacy downstairs with the bathroom and so on," Sonia says.

The upper level veranda features wood decking and is a natural extension of the open, living and dining areas for added flexibility. "It's just a pleasant, tranquil spot to have a meal, enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine looking to the coast," she says. The master bedroom with spacious ensuite and the kitchen, dining and living zones (about 32sqm) are upstairs, along with a separate powder room and third toilet. Three bedrooms, a bathroom, a large family-room and garage with internal access make up the ground level. The kitchen and living areas are finished with floating floorboards for easier maintenance.
