Meet the couple who created a cost-effective

Escaping the 'rat race' for some well earned down time was the goal for Mia McLean and partner Darren Pedler. The couple bought a block of land at Encounter Bay more than two years ago but struggled to find the right design. "The block slopes from back to front and the best views were from the rear of the home, so we basically had to find a home that was back to front," Mia says. "We spent about two years Looking until we drove past a Sarah display home. We both thought it would work and once we stepped inside everything fell into place.""
The front of the home faces the road and includes a decked area and Hardiplex facade. The couple wanted to maximize the views at the rear of the home which has a sea outlook over Granite Island. "The Living room and main bedroom both look out over the water and it is just a beautiful relaxing aspect to the home," Mia says. A side decked area looks over the rolling hills towards Adelaide. A galley kitchen sits between the living and meals area and includes ample underbench storage as well as a corner pantry and overhead cupboards. .
Mia says they love the size and open-plan layout of the home. "The big windows ensure there is also plenty of natural light coming into the home keeping everything bright and airy," she says. "We often have friends and family staying over, especially two of my nephews. The two minor bedrooms are used as guest rooms and are a good size for fitting bunks." .
Mia chose the easy care options of floorboards and tiles to complement the modern decor. "Because we only get up here every couple of weeks we wanted a home that would be easy to walk away from," she says. "The floors just need a quick once over and they are clean until we come back next time.". Colorbond steel was used for the side cladding which Mia says provided a 'cost effective' solution to the home.
