A customised weekender from Sarah Homes gave this couple the sea change they’d been searching for

Sea views, plenty of room to entertain and an easy care design have provided retirees Lyn and Malcolm Egel with an idyllic lifestyle.
"We decided that we wanted to have a sea change and get away from the suburbs that seem to be getting busier and busier," Lyn says.
"Having a two-storey design with a balcony to enjoy sea views was something we both agreed we wanted. Also having a narrow design with a driveway that went all the way to the back was very important because we needed to be able to get our caravan and car in and out easily."
After researching numerous possible designs the couple hit the display homes. "We spoke to a few builders but we chose Sarah in the end because we found them the most helpful," Lyn says.
The McCubbin has the kitchen on the top level, which looks over the combined dining and living areas.
"What we love above the design is that we can do all of our living on the top floor," Lyn says. "There are magnificent views of Granite Island straight ahead and the hills to the side. There is plenty of room on the top living level to entertain everyone in the family.
We also have pull-down blinds around the balcony so it gives protection from the sun and wind, and allows us to sit out there in comfort or entertain at any time of the year." The main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe while the ensuite space was extensively modified.
"Originally it had a bathroom with a separate toilet," Lyn says. "We needed to create space for a walk-in pantry so we altered the ensuite to do that and also added a second door so guests could also use the bathroom without having to walk through the main bedroom."
Downstairs houses the two minor bedrooms, main bathroom with corner shower and laundry with outdoor access.
One room is used as Lyn's sewing and craft room while the other is for guests. Vinyl flooring downstairs and tiling upstairs make for an easy clean home, especially when the grandkids stay over.
Under stair storage provides another handy option to keep clutter at bay.
