Long days by the sea and time spent with family and friends initially attracted Kerry and Don Pasculli to build their beachside retreat. .
They wanted their two-storey holiday home to reflect their style as well as be a practical and relaxing space to entertain, unwind and come home to after spending long and lazy days at the beach. .
“It lends itself to the environment and a relaxed way of living,” says Kerry. “As soon as we arrive, we feel that sense of relaxation.” .
The Pascullis were won over by the open-plan design and clean lines of the Whiteley design by Sarah Homes – a perfect fit for a beachside lifestyle. .
“It’s so open and bright and there’s not a lot that has to be done besides open it up, so you feel a sense of peacefulness, and like you’re on holiday straight away,” says Kerry. .
With two grown children, extended family and friends visiting often, the home design also had to accommodate the flow of traffic. There are three bedrooms, a living space, bathroom and laundry downstairs so upstairs is free for entertaining. The open-plan space upstairs includes kitchen, dining and living areas, which extend onto a spacious balcony. .
The main bedroom with ensuite and built-in robes is also upstairs, along with a separate toilet and vanity for guests. “We chose the upstairs living style to capitalise on the valley views, but it’s very versatile; it’s great for families as well as couples,” says Kerry. .
The couple added an extra metre to the floor plan to further extend the balcony and make the area even more spacious for comfortable outdoor entertaining. .
They also opted for a pitched roof to help personalise the home and add a point of difference to the design. “We were really pleased with Sarah; they went out of their way to help with everything, and they were always really accommodating,” says Kerry. “They also had the finishing touches that we liked and hadn’t seen anywhere else, so they had a lot going for them.” .
